Could I have lead poisoning?
I have had two of the symptoms for high levels of lead–problems with sleep and irritable bowels–since June or July. Due to poverty and a lot of older homes, my county has the highest percentage of children with high levels of lead (7 times higher than the national average) in my state. I am aware, however, that my symptoms could be caused by depression (I am currently being treated by a psychiatrist for this) and there are environmental factors that could account for my lack of sleep (not to mention dietary factors).
My question is: should I be worrying that I have lead poisoning? I don’t eat paint chips and my apartment was built in the early 80s (homes with lead paint were usually built before 1978). I only drink filtered water and I don’t smoke or drink alcohol. I worry a lot about the future, however, and I wonder if my sleeplessness and restless bowels are caused from this rather than high levels of lead. What else…I’m 30.
Thanks.
