would you say that this was a spiritual thing to do??
Mattel formally apologized to the people of China for damaging their country’s reputation in the wake of a series of Chinese-made toy recalls because of potentially harmful levels of lead paint.
maybe i just don’t understand this, but i would think that china should have apologised to us?
what do you think?
my concern is both spiritual and personal…i have grandkids.
shouldn’t china have to comply with whatever laws are in place in the country it wants to export to?
China is a totalitarian state. The head of Mattel understands that when your business, career and life is in the hands of those who are not vulnerable to law or any other force at your disposal, you do what they want.
In his apology the Mattel executive faulted their own business contracts etc. and perhaps justly so. After all, we know that Mattel is there having toys manufactured because of the low labor costs. It is very likely that they are pushing the chinese to make everything as cheaply and as prettily as possible with all other considerations secondary. Since it is unlikely that they emphasized the safety aspects, and the Chinese very likely have no such regulations, Mattel may very well bear a considerable portion of the responsibility.
