Demolition Works In A Number Of Ways
An important thing to know about demolition is that it is a practice that involves more than just taking down old buildings that are no longer needed. It also involves working with a variety of different processes.A traditional type of demolition process will involve the use of standard construction equipment that is used to wreck materials. The traditional wrecking ball is often used in demolition processes. However, many modern types of processes can work with excavators that can work to take down some higher areas. This is a process that is often handled with smaller buildings in mind.
This type of process can be useful in that it is a basic process. However, it can also be risky due to the materials that could be in an old building. These include things like asbestos installations and lead paint.
Deconstruction is also used as a demolition process. This is where a building is carefully disassembled over time. All hazardous materials are removed ahead of time and materials that can be recycled are taken apart and preserved for future use. This has become a more popular demolition option because of how safe it is on the environment and people around it. This is a great advantage for any person to take a look at when working with a building.
An implosion can also work. This is a type of installation that works in that a series of explosives will be placed around a building that will be demolished. All of the materials will be linked together and then a trigger will work to set them all off. These explosives are often placed at the bottom of a building to ensure that it will fall down properly and in a straight manner. This is something that is often used for taller structures. A big thing about this process is that the demolition here can last only a few seconds. The cleanup, on the other hand, is another story. The process of preparing the building for a demolition can take a while as well.
No matter what option is used a proper cleanup process will need to be handled. This involves working to separate wastes and to get them cleared off of the site as soon as possible. This is so a new application can be built on the site of the old one.
The amount of time that the demolition process can take will vary by the type of process that is used. It will also vary according to the size of the buildings that is being taken care of in the entire process.
These are three good ways how demolition processes can be handled. These processes can be used to where any type of building can be destroyed and cleaned up.

Lead Paint Renovation Rule

How much exposure to lead does it take to harm an adult?

New Rules For Renovating Pre-1978 Homes
New Rules for Renovations to Pre-1978 Home
This information was kindly provided to me by Rob Crawford with Renaissance South Construction Company. I hope this is helpful to you!
New Rules for Renovations, Repairs and Painting to Pre-1978 Homes
By Rob Crawford, CAPS, CGP of Renaissance South Construction Co.
Beginning April 22, 2010, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will begin enforcing a requirement that contractors have a special certification to perform work to pre-1978 homes – the year when lead-based paint was outlawed in the U.S. The fine for non-compliance is $32,500 per violation.
Although the contractor is subject to the fines, homeowners will almost certainly be impacted. In addition to toxic dust exposure, indefinite project interruption and higher finishing costs, additional stress is inevitable, especially should the fine put the contractor out of business.
Not all homes built before 1978 contain lead-based paint, so testing is required to determine its presence (or its presence can be assumed). Positive results of this test trigger a prescriptive set of guidelines that must be followed, as long as over six square feet of interior or 20 square feet of exterior surface are being disturbed. Simple washing and over-painting is excluded.
The basic tenets of these guidelines involve the containment, control and cleaning of dust released in work areas, since inhalation and ingestion are the two ways that lead can enter the body.
The new rules were primarily put into place for the protection of young children, pregnant women and workers. Central nervous system damage, permanent mental and behavioral problems in children and several types of birth complications are a few of the most common side effects of lead poisoning.
Certification requirements also trickle down to most trades and specialty contractors, whether working for a homeowner independently or as part of a general contracting team. Therefore, if there is a general contractor working in a lead area with their electrician and painter, all three firms would have to be certified with at least one certified renovator on site per firm.
Residential property managers are also required to be certified and child occupied facilities, such as a day care, are to receive the same treatment as a home.
As part of this process, homeowners will also be required to sign a form stating that they have received a copy of the EPA’s “Renovate Right” pamphlet from their contractor. An online version of this is available at the EPA’s website, www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/renovaterightbrochurebw.pdf. There is currently no online resource to find certified contractors, so it is recommended homeowners ask about the certification before meeting and be sure to get a copy of the certificate before signing any contracts.

Renovators Need Lead-Safe Certification
Lead Paint Renovation

Lead paint dust: My kids are 11 and 13. Doing renovations. How many days can they sleep here with lead dust?
We haven’t tested the lead level in the dust yet. Just worrying. Renovations were the equivalent of stripping one door of paint, using a scraper. Most swept up but we can smell something bad. Don’t want to hear alarmists — just anyone with real info. Thanks.
It is important to protect yourself when dealing with lead paint. Adequately protect yourself by wearing a dual filter respirator, gloves and overalls. Make sure you aren’t working around pets or children. You should place down a tarp, or a similar plastic drop sheet to catch the paint for easy disposal. It is best to use a drop sheet that you don’t mind getting rid of.
Step 2To remove the paint you should avoid sanding. Creating dust from the lead based paint is generally not a good idea and should be avoided. Any dust created can linger and contaminate the home. While the effects of lead are not entirely known on humans and household pets, it is generally known to be harmful to health.
Step 3To remove the paint you can purchase a commercial system such as Peel Away and Let’s Clean. These are chemical solutions that will easily remove multiple layers of paint at once. However make sure you read the label to know if it is safe for the material you will be using it on. Some solutions may cause permanent damage to wood and other surfaces. Simply purchase one of these chemicals and apply to the surface as per instructions, you will find that the paint comes off very well.

Lead Paint Encapsulate

My Husband & I just bought a really old house. ?
He is sure that the paint has lead in it. What are my options?
I was told that I could encapsulate it by using primer & then painting over it. Is this enough? I have a 9 month old & I’m worried
Lead hasn’t been used in paint for decades now, and it’s probably been painted over more than once already. As long as paint isn’t peeling, it’s already encapsulated. Paint another coat and you’ll be sure, but I bet it’s already safe. Mostly, you don’t want children eating paint chips, a problem when the old paint is peeling. As long as that’s not a problem, you don’t need to worry.

Epa Lead Paint Regulations
will it be harder to replace windows for houses built before 1979?
From my understanding, the EPA passed some regulation that went into effect on April 22nd. It requires contractors to take extra steps when replacing windows on homes built before 1979 and some contractors may decide to avoid working on houses built before 1979 or charge more to replace their windows. It has something to do with lead paint. Is this true?
Yes……….it sucks…..homes before 1978—–must be checked in the area to be worked on by a certified renovator (I just had to go to school to get certified) its called the RRP rule…if the home has a child under 6 or a pregnant woman –then the rules are even stricter—in those cases a lead assessor or risk assessor have to do the test(and in hud houses they are the only ones certified–SUCKS
I had to take time off work ,spend money on tools and equipment–my brain is overloaded with info
also my van is overloaded with more stuff to hall around –if I follow everthing they say I will have to through away every thing I own that is not a hard surface–lead can’t be washed out of cloth etc.
So should I throw out the seats in my van ,the headliner the carpetthe seatbelts..should I throw out all my clothsand every thing I owned for 56 years—this law is killing me and it destroyed jobs when they should be creating jobs not destroying the livly hood of millions???????????????/
I just eat strawberrys to get the lead out of me but congress screwed every contractors life up with this law –they tell you plastic everything off -try that on the snow or ona carpet when leaning out a window–
whoever made this law knows nothing about the real world they must live in a box……….theres more but this is getting me pissed so I don’t want to talk about it any(its the only thing that ever messed up my sleep hours except for a divorce 17 years ago)In this state only abut 500 contractors out of maybe 35000 even knew of the law—stupid -stupid stupid stupid epa get out of my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lead Paint Safe Practices

As some oil paints are toxic and some thinners are also, how safe is oil painting?
Should we paint with oils always in a well ventilated room? Is it dangerous to get any of the products on our skin? Is there a time limit each day when we should stop painting for health reasons.?
I had no idea that some of these products can cause cancer and contain lead etc. until I saw some answers here. I’ve been spending several hours each day practising my new hobby for quite a few weeks now and am wondering if that is too much. What do you think?
I’m using cheap grade paints at the moment but have bought a more expensive set for when I feel more proficient. Does the grade make any difference to the toxicity?
No it’s not too much, you are fine to paint away all day everyday, so long as you thoroughly wash any paint off your hands when you’re finished, and make sure that the room is indeed well ventiliated if using thinners. Also if you’re using rags to help you clean up brushes or any left over blobs of paint, make sure it goes into a tightly closed plastic bag before you dispose of them. If you have any thinners in your ‘wash pot’, you can cover them with some cling film over night if you want to continue using them, just make sure the wash pot isn’t exposed to the air overnight. Some higher grade paints do have more of the dangerous chemicals in them, however as before, wash hands thoroughly after use and you will be fine. If you’re still worried, you can invest in some latex gloves.
