How to Keep Unsafe Toys from Your Child

One of the things that kids love the most is toys. There are millions of toys in the world, and new kinds come into stores every few months. They are important to help your child grow up and develop properly, but they can become a hazard if not made properly. Many children are sent to the emergency room every year because of toy-related accidents.

When you buy toys, make sure that cloth toys are flame resistant or retardant. Any toys that are painted should be painted with lead-free paint. Any art materials should be nontoxic and labeled ASTM D-4236, meaning that they have been checked by the American Society for Testing and Materials. Toys that are old should be thrown away or kept away from young children. These battered toys can harm young ones if they break. All toys should be sturdy so that they do not break.

Make sure that the toys have no sharp edges or points which could puncture your child’s skin. Young children tend to put toys in their mouths and also near their eyes, so check all their toys for this hazard. Battery-powered toys are bad for little children since they could try to eat the batteries. Be certain the battery compartment is not easy for children to access. Also, if old batteries are not changed they could leak toxic fluids. Batteries should be checked or changed periodically. Old toys should be stored without batteries.

Loose strings and cords can be hazardous too, since the child can get tangled or even strangled with them. Any strings should be too short to wrap around a child’s neck. Toys with small parts are extremely dangerous for children under the age of three. These parts can come off and young children can choke on them. Very loud toys can be dangerous since they could damage your child’s hearing.

A lot of toys are recalled each year for being dangerous for young children, but sometimes some toys stay in stock at stores. Make sure that the toys you are buying have not been recalled. You can check on sites like Recalls-dot-gov to see what toys are recalled. Make sure to check this often, as the list is updated regularly.

Always make sure to read the recommended ages for toys, and make sure that your child is mature enough to play with the toy without hurting himself or herself. Toys that are shaped like food can be dangerous since children will think that it is real and try to eat it. Make sure that your child knows the difference between toys and real food if you get these types of toys.

With the toys that you have already, clean them regularly so that they do not get dirty and carry germs to your child. You can also remove dust mites from plushy toys by putting them in the freezer for 6 hours and vacuuming them afterward. Remember to store everything properly in labeled containers in a neat way. Check your child’s toys to see if they are broken and have become a hazard, and if they can’t be fixed, throw them away.

Lastly, make sure that the play area is safe for your child as well. Make sure there aren’t any breakable items nearby and that there is not anything that could fall and potentially harm your child. If the area is safe and the toys are safe, then your child will have less chances of getting hurt while playing.

Lead Paint Mattel Recall

lead paint mattel recall
would you say that this was a spiritual thing to do??

Mattel formally apologized to the people of China for damaging their country’s reputation in the wake of a series of Chinese-made toy recalls because of potentially harmful levels of lead paint.

maybe i just don’t understand this, but i would think that china should have apologised to us?

what do you think?
my concern is both spiritual and personal…i have grandkids.

shouldn’t china have to comply with whatever laws are in place in the country it wants to export to?

China is a totalitarian state. The head of Mattel understands that when your business, career and life is in the hands of those who are not vulnerable to law or any other force at your disposal, you do what they want.

In his apology the Mattel executive faulted their own business contracts etc. and perhaps justly so. After all, we know that Mattel is there having toys manufactured because of the low labor costs. It is very likely that they are pushing the chinese to make everything as cheaply and as prettily as possible with all other considerations secondary. Since it is unlikely that they emphasized the safety aspects, and the Chinese very likely have no such regulations, Mattel may very well bear a considerable portion of the responsibility.

Why not point out that Yahoo Mattel apologized to China?

It was a big deal, when Mattel and the United States condemns China for all defects, recalls, defective toys, etc., when Mattel said. But today, Mattel introduced a formal apology for falsely accusing China of misconduct. that is, There was a very small amount of lead paint toys (which is legal in China) has been found, and all other problems are design flaws MATTEL! Where are the headlines condemning Mattel, to match those who condemned China for the first time? The reality is that Mattel makes big profits from the manufacture in China and most of us can not afford to buy toys for our children if they were not there.

I am not sorry at all for Mattel. Too many products made overseas because of cheap labor.

Worried about lead paint in toys?

I never thought of before, but when I had my son, I signed CSPC remember, and I'm surprised how many toys are recalled for lead paint. I'm seriously considering buying my son unpainted wooden toys, or at least only buy things from a business in confidence, though more expensive. What are your thoughts and feelings on the issue of lead paint? http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml09/09136.html

A new law should come into force shortly. Only toys that have been tested for lead can be sold, they are free of lead, of course. It was in the news because lead testing can be expensive and there are still some toy stores mom and dad a hand there, and will not be able to finance the $ for tests of each toy, and not mass produced. This is good news in the future, for now, just do our research.

Toy Recalls Lead Paint Mattel

22 Apr

Should Mattel be responsible for it’s overseas manufacturers’ construction practices?

I noticed today, that Mattel is recalling yet another bundle of it’s China-made toys. What I’m wondering about, is why they don’t just fix the problem? When are they going to start employing quality control in their products? They’ve sold China-made toys for decades. China didn’t just recently invent lead-based paint. There has to be a point where someone holds the company in charge accountable for this.

I’m also forced to wonder, is there really a product safety issue, or is Mattel being brought into political affairs by bashing the Chinese export market? Thoughts?

It seems to me that Mattel is being very responsible, by voluntarily recalling all of these products. The problem is the Chinese government is not doing what it should in policing this stuff. Under Chinese law an outsider cannot really “own” a factory, they have to do it in partnership with a Chinese national. Most of these factories are small by our comparison and most use outside contractors to do some of the smaller work. Mattel furnished the lead free paint to use in painting their toys. The sub-contractors probably sold the Mattel paint and bought cheaper lead based paint, thinking they would not get caught.

Also the underlying problem is called “The Walmart Effect”. Walmart (the largest purchaser of toys and most other products in the world) demands lower and lower prices from its suppliers. These suppliers have to find ways to cut their overhead (and quality) in order to meet the Walmart demand. This demand of lower prices works it’s way all the way down to the subcontractors making small parts for toys for Mattel. They are trying to squeeze out a profit any way they can.

So I suppose one could say the we as American consumers are adding to this problem by shopping at Walmart.

Mattel recall – what is lead paint and what can it do if ingested? Know it is harmful but just wondered?

why Mattel has had to recall so many toys for this reason.. they do not elaborate on their website..

Also wondered why manufacturers would use this – is it cheaper or something?

Thanks all
Jelliminelli – it is magnets AND lead paint recalls as there are 2 reasons for it..

lead paint is harmful, they get away with it if it is coated as it chips easily. If not coated, then it is basically a death trap as lead is a killer if digested into your system

Who else thinks China has a secret plan?

Millions of toys being recalled because of lead paint and now toxins that metabolize into GHB found in toys- sounds like China is obviously either not realizing the effects of these chemicals on humans or they are trying to ruin our younger generations.

Toys crisis that the United States and Thailand and challenges in China – toys recalled in China, Ma

When asked over the past month Mattel has recalled more than 1,000 U.S. million toys move will hurt the most famous dolls on earth, the Wharton marketing professor Stephen? Hodge (StephenHoch) gives the reassuring answer: “Barbie doll wearing a bulletproof yet.”

But the United States and Thailand will be safe while it is still difficult to predict. Although many observers the company to respond quickly to crises appreciation?? The United States and Thailand on the matter immediately CEO apologized and promised to adopt more stringent product safety checks, but the company still faces many problems, including the recall move and adoption of new monitoring systems related to the huge cost of potential litigation risk, and the holiday shopping season about to enter the occasion of the company’s reputation has been hit.

At the same time, Mattel announced the recall of events from the news of the two not only to thousands of parents rummaging through to find the hidden dangers of the toys, but also to the Chinese quality control and supply chain are each the relentless pursuit of lower costs long-term problem caused even stronger concern. “‘Low cost’ is obviously a price,” says Wharton management professor and China expert Marshall? Meyer (MarshallMeyer) said, “issue is likely to be complicated than we expected much more.”

To respond quickly?? Apologize The plight of Maytag from two aspects: the lead paint and small magnets. Aug. 2, Mattel recalled about 1.5 million sets of leaded paint Fisher-Price (Fisher-Price) toys?? Including the popular cartoon characters, football star Ernie, itching doll (Elmo), a small explorer Dora (Dorathe Explorer) and bird (BigBird). If the lead gradually over time, into the body, may cause serious development of children and other health problems. August 14, Mattel once again because of lead paint issue announced a worldwide recall of 436,000 units under the Disney animated film “Cars” in the “sheriff” (Sarge) molding die-casting toy car ( recall of 253,000 units in the United States, other parts of the world to recall 183,000 units). In addition, the company also recalled about 1,820 million (U.S. accounted for 9.5 million units) Barbie, PollyPocket dolls, Doggie DayCare and Batman toys, models and ancillary items, because these toys containing small powerful magnets may be loosened, if a child accidentally swallow more than two magnets inside the toys, these magnets will attract each other in the body, causing intestinal perforation.

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published in the August 14 recall notice stated that the small magnets inside the toys “diameter 1 / 8 inch, embedded in the hands and feet of some dolls, as well as the plastic clothing, hair ornaments and other accessories to help these things stick in the doll or doll houses. “The statement also said that there had been three children who swallowed more than one magnet and cause serious injuries were reported. In the second recall of events reported in the media that other manufacturers of similar small magnet toys containing lead to a child who died, 14 children were injured.

According to Mattel introduced toys using lead paint problem is that the production of toys for their Chinese manufacturers of toys painting process will be subcontracted to a supplier due to which the poor and the disabled to use paint products. On the magnets easily swallowed the problem, Mattel said the company in January “has all of its brands on the implementation of the magnet toys reinforcement system.” Approximately 65% of Mattel toys made in China.

Apart from the Chairman & CEO Robert? Eckelt (RobertEckert) to apologize, the toy manufacturer Mattel has requested procurement of each batch of paint for lead testing, the establishment of inspection systems, and each number of finished toys to check compliance.

Observers believe that some companies in the past refused to acknowledge problems at the beginning and / or try to shift the responsibility onto others than the practice of Mattel CEO to apologize is a welcome move. “Enterprise is a high-level open chess wonderful apology was for two reasons,” Chinese legal and political experts, Professor, University of Pennsylvania Law School, Jacques? Delisle (JacquesdeLisle) said, “First, it is often able to recall the message spread out more effectively; Second, many studies have shown that victims are often extremely concerned about the party’s apology and an apology and atonement, if the defendant, and not denied responsibility, then the defendant may pay less compensation. ”

Wharton marketing professor Lisa? Bolton (LisaBolton) suggested that in this case, companies “should try to quickly come forward to confront the problem … … best to control the situation and its development.” She believes that such action is a manifestation of an apology, and customers can be assured. But in this case, an apology may have been a little late … … because this is not the first occurrence of the problems related to small magnets, you will want to find out why the company continues to use this technology.

Have been made since the apology, “the United States and Thailand real challenge is to show people that it is a huge effort into quality control,” Arizona State University WP Carey School (WPCarey School of Business) President Robert? Mitt Ershitaite (RobertMittelstaedt) said. “I bring this incident and the airline crash occurred after the case for comparison. A few years ago, U.S. Airways (USAirways) of two aircraft in a relatively short period of time have crashed, the company to come forward and engage a retired Air Force general to draw up a major security program, designed to review and implement security processes and procedures necessary to make the public believe that the degree of attention to security. ”

Mittelstaedt is “you make the next mistake will be fatal it? Avoid linkage error, it may destroy your organization “(Wharton School Publishing), author of the book. He said that traditionally, companies tend to focus on how much the lowest possible cost to produce a product, how to make products as quickly as possible shelves. Then, for a toy retailers, “as long as the product is not small enough to be swallowed by children’s false, you can sit back and relax … … These days, the whole world know that the products produced in China is the place to save money, people will be asked where the company’s priority. lead poisoning recalls
Why is China poisoning our children?

Chinese toy companies have recalled MILLIONS of lead contaminated toys. Obviously their is a profit reason, but do you think that their could be an ulterior motive? Lead poisoning causes behavior problems and in extreme cases, mental retardation. Could the Chinese be trying to sabotage our youth?

The question is why are you an ignorant?

On September 21, 2007, Mattel’s Executive Vice-President for worldwide operations, Thomas Debrowski, travelled to Beijing. In a meeting with China’s product safety chief, Li Chanjiang, Debrowski took full responsibility for the magnet recalls and said that, “vast majority of those products that were recalled were the result of a design flaw in Mattel’s design, not through a manufacturing flaw in China’s manufacturers.”

Lead Paint Baby Toy Recall

21 Mar

Will you keep buying Chinese products for their children?

- Recalls of millions of Mattel toys found to contain lead paint …. - A large-scale recalls dangerous parts of the toys …. Now death of two babies to be trapped and died in their cribs. (The U.S. authorities have announced the withdrawal of a million people) What future? For my part, do not buy anything "Made in China" from now on Source -. http://www.news.com.au/story/0 ,23599,22462362-2, 00.html

Never ever. But if you think I do not think it is China's fault that the manufacturers do not check the products of other countries to ensure that the adjustment manufacturer's standards. Even random testing should be performed to ensure that safety standards are met on a regular basis, have not wait until an accident occurs before the transition to action. I average consumer is paying in the hope that all the highest standards and they are respected. Take, for example, too, most first Once it is recalled that most of the toys had small magnets that were then determined to be harmful if swallowed children and other small parts of toys. If the manufacturer I knew I was well known and trusted the world level, must report in advance that the children take things and pushes own mouth which is quite dangerous, as only add to what they have magnet and other parts and a sharp or blunt summary, by not responding to safety standards, yet a minimum level of quality. For me suspicious from the beginning. I became a mother a few years ago, but as the eldest of my family and see my half brothers and sisters of experience with all the toys that made me start to look at myself in the future. I can definietly simpithy with parents, but the best thing to do there is very attentive to everything that has something to do with other good kids we will lose much of which is the worst news any parent wants to hear or pass. Since I started this happening stopped buying anything from China I mean if our country do not see why the Chinese people? And we, the consumers who buy products from China despite the things that happen, as you can for China to continue its path of destruction, they can not be liable to any person or the death of the child.

Toy Lead Paint Recalls List

toy lead paint recalls list
Fisher price recall, I am wondering if anyone has found a site with pics for the complete list?

I know my kids have at least one toy, but I need pictures, not just a list. What the he** is going on with these toys and such with lead paint lately? How is even made still anywhere in this world knowing what we do about it? My last question is if it was bought prior to May 2007 is it safe? Ok one more question, are people going to get money back or do we need to just throw our kids toys out?

Here is a photo list of the Fisher-Price toys the company has recalled in cooperation with the United States Consumer Products Safety Commission:

http://service.mattel.com/us/recall/39054_IVR.asp?prod=

Here is the official notice from the CPSC:

http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml07/07257.html

As to your other questions, the problem with toys nowadays is that so many of them are being manufactured in China where regulations governing the production of products is lax or where officials who should monitor the manufacture of goods shipped to the United States look the other way. What are we going to do about it? Well, I’d stop buying toys manufactured in China. There are lots of great toys you can buy that aren’t made in China. Frankly, I wouldn’t trust that any toy made in China is safe, regardless of whether it was made before or after May 2007. Finally, if you have a toy affected by the recall, take it away from your child. If you choose to return the recalled toy to Fisher-Price according to it directions, you’ll receive a voucher to use at most toy retailers. Personally, I think that is small consolation. Again, I advise you to be wary of purchasing any toy made in China

Lead Paint Children

lead paint children
lead based paint .how dangerousis this for children?

this is regarding the situation in iran

Wow…another situation in Iran. Lead-based paint is very dangerous for children, because it becomes toxic when it is taken internally, and children are bound to try to eat almost anything, it seems.

Please hook up to this link for further information; look under “Lead poisoning.” (Start with “lead-based paint.”)

http://www.msn.encarta.com/

The paint taken internally, even in small doses, can cause children to develop slowly, have reduced intelligence, memory problems, hearing and balance problems… the list goes on a bit.

Best of luck for you and the little ones!

Green creates a feeling of freshness, freshness and vitality, while white flowers also suggest cleanliness, and better at night, when the eyes of many buyers in homes. Rosemary and French lavender to enhance the Mediterranean style parameters.

It adds an emotional support team

The action begins with access to your home attractive. If you have no dedicated walkway to the door main, add a single track. An errant path to the front door feels psychologically relaxed friendship. Adding a water source also improves the environment, because moving water relaxes the body and mind and refreshes the mind. Want to create a sense of balance and harmony, as found in nature.

Home in the landscape before working inside the house, to give plants time to grow, and be sure to plant the fields of home if you are also planning to paint abroad. No need to go too far. Enough plants to give an impression of a healthy growth and divert the attention of a buyer away from all arid areas through the use of focal points in the landscape.

Another reason to start is to motivate neighbors also begin beautifying their properties but the entire neighborhood look good greatly enhances the value of your property.
